It's weird how things coincide sometimes. I can place that picture immediately, I happen to be reading Churchill's "The World Crisis" history of WWI. That picture is of the Czech division, who were pressed by the Austro-Hungarians to fight on the eastern front, and became Russian prisoners of war. When Nicholas II's government fell to the Bolshevics, the Czechs took the opportunity to break out, steal some arms, and play havoc with the Bolshevics in Siberia for several years. Singly-handedly cut Moscow off from most everything east of the Urals. Lack of support from the worn out allies left them unable to exploit the Soviet's weakness, so they ended up taking a boat home from Vladivostok. One of the coolest war stories I'd never heard of before.
