Jeez, look at all the room in those bunks! Man, some people live like kings!

I miss Sailors. I miss ships. I miss the espirit de corps of a good squadron. I miss wearing my uniform. I miss going down to the CPO Mess with my shipmates at 0200 for a Coke and popcorn with tabasco sauce.

Looks very much like Ft. Jackson barracks ca. 1964, except the coal stove was in its own little room off to the side and we had wall and foot lockers. The classrooms had a coal stove smack in the center of the room; sit near and roast or sit far and freeze.

Dad was stationed at Wendover in '44. I visited it in 1980-deserted. Did an ANG summer camp in similar facitilies at Gowan Field, Idaho in '74, and of course lived in only somewhat more modernized barracks during basic in '71.

How did I ever get to be so old, fat, stupid and in the way?

Ok, the barracks were a bit sparce, but the operation was silver, Operation Silverplate. High priority to anything Col. Tibbets needed.

The National Guard Barracks looked like that in 1982 at Fort McClellan, Alabama.
