"GIRL, 14, left battling for her life after being savaged by a bear on bike ride.".........Well. At least he wasn't riding around in a gas guzzling SUV. -

Shame on the race organizers for routing the race next a salmon stream at midnight- in brown bear country!
Shame on this gals parents for not paying attention.
Same stretch of trail 3-4 years ago, a guy was charged by a boar grizzly- he emptied his .44 into it, stopped it. Came back with fish & game, the officer finished off the crippled bear with a 12 gauge slug as the high school track team ran down the same trail. The bear was sitting on a moose kill about 10 yards from the jogging path.
Some folks (that should know better) are in denial about the reality of life in Alaska.
