Andrea Mitchell's Hayseeds

Heads-up Yokels
Our betters is atalkin to you'ns.

On Monday's "MSNBC News Live," journalist Andrea Mitchell and Washington Post editorial writer Jonathan Capehart discussed whether Americans are not "sophisticated" enough to understand the attempted satire in the cartoon featured on the cover of the current New Yorker magazine. According to Mitchell,

...The only question there is whether [the cover] is too sophisticated to actually be perceived the way it is intended. ... The folks at the New Yorker are very smart, very learned, learned people, but once you get outside of the confines of Manhattan and the Upper West Side, you sort of begin to wonder if anyone-- if there was a conversation around the table about how will this be viewed by people who won't necessarily get the joke [Newsbusters]
Andrea, dahling. Effective parody must manifestly be parody, if you catch my drift. That you  see the Obama's past as All-America normal is a failing of the liberal cloister, and here delivers you into self parody.   Do you understand that, you boorish twatling.?  *spits tobakky*

All I can say is wow....

I have lived in Texas most of my life. I have also travelled quite extensively throughout the world, for both business and pleasure, and earned two Masters degrees. Andrea Mitchell can kiss my unsophisticated ass. I have met my fair share of New Yorkers and to say that sophistication comes from there or that they are the arbiters of what and who are, or are not, sophisticated is laughable. The only place I've ever been that smelled worse than Times Square in summer is Southeastern Turkey, and people there deficate just about anywhere they feel like it.

I think Andrea Mitchell hit it square. Being stuck in Manhattan and the Upper West Side, your kinda of in a cage in a zoo. You only know what you dream up, and are too stupid to recognize an insult.
By the way, just spent the 4th of July in Times Square-loved it. A lot cleaner than FRISCO.

The rather explicit message of the interview, along with what I imagine its subliminal tone to be, prob'ly offends more people than the 'toon.

Some of the people I've met from NYC are dangerously misguided on what folks in the flyover states may or may not believe, consider, think, and do.

The faculty lounge at the university where I taught always had several copies of the mag around . . . always enjoyed most of the cartoons, though I thought some of them tried too hard to be blase, sophisticated, dilettantish, jaded, narrow-minded, and pretty damned ignorant of the reality outside their own little milieu. Problem was that they generally succeeded in being all those things without always being funny. They tend to wallow in elitism like cold hogs in warm mud, condescendingly pillorying what they perceive to be lesser intellects and squares. What a lonely life that must ultimately turn out to be.

The world is full of smart people who aren't thoughtful.

So proper Satire, to be effective, must be like good humor and contain the element of truth?

I wonder how many Hillary!! fans work there.
