Armed victims, ain't.

"When he sat down and ordered "Mad Dog" that was a pretty good sign not everything was right." - Restaurant Manager

You're out to a fancy dinner - when all of a sudden, a thug walks into your private dining area and demands everyone's wallets.

That's what happened Monday night at the Pacific Grill in Tacoma. But this story doesn't have an unhappy ending. That's because one of the doctors at the dinner had a concealed weapon's permit. He pulled his gun and marched the perp into the street as the cops were just rolling. [Story and video]

I like these stories because people in Maryland have to realize that this guy is still robbing them.  But there's so much more that's understated in this story.  After being seated, and ordering "Mad Dog,"  our perp goes into the private area behind him, where he holds up a customer.  He goes back to his seat, gets back up, and goes back to the private area to do some more hold-up.  The only thing that keeps him from winning a Darwin Award is not being killed in the act.

Ah, yes! Mad Dog 20/20. The wine of the century. Just the smell will trip my gag reflex. In my younger days, it was a mighty cheap drunk.

There's got to be some loophole around this in MD.

I've thought about starting a security agency just for the sake of securing licenses, but it's too much hassle.

Might as well move to VA.

Makes a fellow proud just to have that Doc in the neighborhood.

I do have to question his decision to just march him outside and send him off with a warning - only dumb luck that the cops were there, else he can come back with a sawed-off and really go nuts.

Totally with you there, Rodger.

You'd better commit to taking it through to completion before drawing your weapon... one way or another. Still, I watched the video with great interest to see what I'm gonna do if I'm ever in his shoes.

Trouble is...
In a number of States (e.g. here in NC), it's illegal to carry in a place where liquor is sold for on-premises consumption. So, sometimes you gotta make a decision about how much of the law you're gonna obey.

Tim,.."In my younger days"...When I was a youngun stationed down in Bermuda, back in the fifties, our equivalent was something local called "Sneaky Pete"....About the same grade stuff..Cheap & Potent.

In all fairness to the good Dr., if he had shot the bastard, he would have had to perform first aid on the guy he just shot. By doing what he did, he was able to finish his meal.
Priorities.

Many states gun/liqueur laws are vague and unenforceable, he was in a restaurant, not a bar, and the fact that he wasn't charged speaks well. The good doctor very well may have seen the police outside.

JMcD, In the 50's? I didnt make my first deployment there until '81. I feel like a pup. And for us it was rum swizzles or Black Seal. Not cheap, but one hell of a kick.

Tim, from what I read a little while back, I wouldn't even know the place...Then it was P5M's at NOB....All gone now...sigh...Feel ancient.

My end closed in '95 JMcD. I looked at the base (NAS/Kindley Field) on google and they tore it all down. Just like the annex/seaplane base, its all a memory for us VP guys.

Another doctor said the doc who pulled the gun was as cool as they come.Drew his weapon with one smooth stroke, and told the guy , Leave,if you look back I'm going to shoot you.

A blimp crashed at Kindley while I was in Bermuda and a crew picked up the pieces for shipment back to States....Probably originated at Glynco, Brunswick Ga.
