Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, speaks at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Washington. The event was marked by a series of embarrassing missteps. Mr. Obama raised his arm, displaying a hand gesture he believed to be a sign of Latino solidarity, but was the hand sign used by California street gang Crips. He then mysteriously asked the crowd "¿Dónde está su cortacéspedes de césped?" (Where are your lawnmowers?). Obama was not hit by the ensuing gunfire. (AB Photo/Alan Freed) |
