Lots of reasons why our only response will be verbal, but the only pertinent one is......1956. Soviet tanks rolled into.....Budapest in 1956. But Eisenhower, ever the general, realized that we had absolutely no way of supporting a conventional war against the USSR. That's the only relevant point now. We haven't the forces, nor the force, nor the logistics to support a large-scale military campaign East of the Black Sea. The Russians know that, which is why they've invaded Georgia. Our only resort is to the nuclear option, and I think -rhetoric aside- everyone knows that's not happening, just as Ike did in 1956.
