For
several years I've passed along advice my grade school teacher
gave us during a history class. Every American ought make a list
of government actions that are so odious as to threaten our
freedom. The presence of any of these preconditions will
obligate us to,with disregard for life, family, and personal
fortune (as did our founders, which subject was current), to take any and all
remedial action. Without the list, she warned, encroachment on our
liberties will be so subtly pernicious as to allow for a quibbling
disregard. Her suggestion was to put our list in our Daily Missals , so we'd see it every day (snort).
By having the temerity to place curbs on salaries paid by the private sector,
congress has passed , hopefully, everybody's line. Just now,
watching Pelosi, Dodd, and Franks gloating before the cameras prompted
me to blurt out. "It's a damn good thing I'm married and have
children." "Why?" "Never mind." But the truth
is, I haven't been looking at my own list often enough.
One other thing. You don't like Ann Coulter? Get over it long enough to read "They gave your mortgage to a less qualified minority "
Clip it. and send it to everyone you know, and say some guy named Fred
wrote it. I don't care. It's 100% on target.
