Debate between Sen. McCain and "We"

Enough, I watched with the Corner stars, and cherry picked below.  Mo Sup watched in a separate room.  Her opinion is that Obama will be perceived the winner -- because he "sounded" knowledgeable.  When you're going after the undecided vote, you're going after people who are disengaged, and easy prey for a good liar, which Obama is.  Worked for Clinton.  We'll see.

Notes from the Corner
It needs more cowbell.

...won't have to rehash whether or not we should have gone into Iraq. Good answer, McCain. Obama looks small trying to gain credit for opposing the war when he was a state senator.

40 mins in.

And Lehrer compares it to Vietnam. Nice unbiased question.

Did he just say the president RULES the country?

We're at war. Do we get a foreign-policy debate?

I can't watch this without the Newshour music.

And I miss McNeil.

I think McCain scored there—Obama looked wishy-washy. And also scores on nuclear and drilling.

  • I understand why the NYTimes won't defend McCain's tax policies    [Michael Graham]

...but can someone explain to my why SEN. MCCAIN won't defend them?  Sen. Obama got away with the "$4 billion in tax cuts for oil companies" scam because McCain didn't point out that he wants to lower taxes on every business across the board.  It would have pointed out that Sen. Obama's blatantly misleading people about McCain.

Meanwhile, Obama is sharing a laundry list of new spending and McCain is letting him walk.  Why not just ask "Sen. Obama, you just listed billions in new spending. How will you pay for it?"

This is supposed to be a national-security debate. Half hour in, we're still on econ.

Obama shouldn't have said "John" when McCain is saying "Senator Obama."

  • Not His Debate   [Mark R. Levin]

Iraq, al-Qaeda, Afghanistan ... Obama is rambling now.

  • Yowzer!    [Amy Holmes]

When asked about his failure to hold a single oversight hearing on NATO, or visit Iraq for 900 days, or consult with General Patreus, Obama smiled and said that he's very proud of his VP! Basically inferring that he doesn't need to worry about that Commander in Chief stuff because he's got Joe Biden to handle all of that!

Obama admit Joe Biden is his foreign-policy cred?

Nasty doesn't look good on Obama.

  • From a Civilian Mom    [Amy Holmes]

Watching at home here in NYC with her husband and two little babies: "I hope I am not assessing out of my pro-McCain bias, but McCain has had Obama on the defensive 90% of the time. And Obama is rambling on so much- good lord I can barely follow him!"

Did Obama really just do that? Try and contradict "don't let my son die in vain"?

tell O'Reilly Iran is a serious threat?

  • McCain Pounds the Precondition Point   [Rich Lowry]
  • Obama's Problem   [Mark R. Levin]

What strikes me most about this debate is how often Obama dissembles — both about what he has said in the past and his policies. Say what you might about McCain, but you cannot say he dissembles.

  • McCain's the Aggressor in the Debate   [Rich Lowry]

But Obama is counter-punching well enough for his purposes—basically holding his own in a national-security debate.

I hate it when Obama refers to himself that way. I wish McCain would turn to him and say, "Who is `we' Sen. Obama?"

  • "Senator Obama Doesn't Quite Understand"   [Rich Lowry]

There it is again.

(I'm off to walk the dog)

I got a good chuckle when BO talked about how he had worked to ensure that all Americans had basic health care. I have basic health care? Really? He must be talking about that old box of band-aides in my desk.

Other than that, I was bored to tears. Two Democrats mouthing platitudes and retelling their favorite old lies for six hours. I thought I was going to die.

There was not a single "YES" moment.

There was a laugh-line though, that's damn near as good.
