Lol, oh yes, reminds me of the old days in Chicago. I could even smell the place. Chicago is a pretty racist town. The only place worse is Detroit. Hmmmmm, wonder why. I also wonder how long it would take for the White House to become roach & rodent infested.

So, the places were built on the cheap by contractors who skimmed off the extra profits for building sub-standard housing. The residents have no stake in the apartments so don't necessarily work to maintain the existing places (which might be impossible anyway given the low quality of the places). The area is somewhat lawless with kids breaking and destroying property and with no one there to stop them (where are the fathers? right nevermind.).
Finally, they want someone else to solve their problems for them? I know. Get a job and work your way out of the problem. Stop expecting someone else to solve your problems for you.
I guess expecting you to fix your own problems rather than sucking off the government teat makes me a racist.
Did that actually come from the Boston Globe/NYT?
I'm surprised.
Color me unimpressed. You get rodents and roaches when they find a food source in your huose. Usually good housekeeping drastically reduces their presence.
A $4 can of expanding foam insulation from home depot will fix the door frame.
A $10 piece of glass or a $15 piece of lexan will fix the window.
and a $3 pack of insect foggers will take care of the roaches, at least temporarily. For the mice, buy a cat.
Maybe of they took the attitude of "this is my apartment, I am going to make whatever repairs I can to improve my living conditions instead of waiting for the gummint to fix it for me," they would have a nicer place to live.
I've lived in government quarters on Army bases before. We take very good care of the quarters, including the lawns, we repair/replace things that wear out or get damaged. We dou best o maintain those quarters becuase although we live there, we are greatful to the taxpayers who provided us with the housing. We NEVER think of it as an "entitlement," but rather a privelidge.
But then again, we're also republicans.
I knew it. Chuck's a racist.
High Five!
I remember a couple years back I had a nice period of voluntary unemployment. It was the slummy part of Calgary I lived in, and the trash on Memorial Drive was appalling. For the grand total of $10 I bought some work gloves and trash bags and picked up my fair share. (I also found a $100 in the trash, showing that good deeds do get rewarded.)
On one of thse days I was near a traffic light, and a woman rolled down her window and asked me if there wasn't some worker that was supposed to be doing it.
People, we need to fight this insidious need people have for government.

Obama lived overseas for four years? Well, then, McCain has him beat by a year and a half. I will grant that Obama's living conditions were probably better than McCain's.
