But that wasn't the righteous man. The character played by Gregory Peck was.

Nothing wrong in thinking things through. Seems to me they all turned out to be righteous men......

What a fantastic movie, Big Country. The fight between Heston and Peck was great. And what a cast!

Truly Peck was the hero. He never compromised. He came into a foreign land and stuck to timeless principles. And natch, in the end got Jean Simmons-hubbahubba

How would the writers of public school text books convey what you just saw to a Chicago 5th grade class?

The last anonymous poses an interesting question. My point, obviously poorly framed, was as a stand-alone parable it demonstrates the power one man holding firm in his beliefs can have. As far as Gregory Peck, to me he's a DMFCCS.

from imdb

# The character played by Charles Bickford was supposed to represent then US President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

# According to Gregory Peck, director William Wyler intended the film to be a left-wing allegory for the Cold War.

The film is credited with starting the trend for pacifist westerns.

First, there are few movie scenes as mind blowing as that in Lonesome Dove, truly one of the best westerns ever.

Second, I hardly consider Peck's actions in Big Country as pacifist-he was far from it and only the contrast with Conners and Heston might cast him in that vain-explain that please.

There is no hidden meaning Rog, you can either stand up and do what's right or slowly degenerate to our current state of affairs.

We have lost the ability to convey our fundamental exceptionalism to our children-they are bathed 24/7 in a culture most of us, as kids, would have thought it something from an EC comic, ala Weird Fantasy-no one in my family would have believed for a second we could sink to where we are now.

We may as well be that culture on the planet with giant people-in that great Twilight Zone episode(keeping in the EC mode, thank you)-that's how alien conservative values are being portrayed. You need look no further then the disgusting anal probe the left inserted into Sarah and the daily whitewashing this bunch gets.

Seriously, look back at the just past week and ask yourself if this had been Bush, do ya think there would've been a bit of difference in various coverages?
