Her name was Edith Macefield. She was an old woman that refused to sell her Seattle home to developers, even when offered a million dollars. So, the big guys just had to build around her.
I understand that the developer or somebody related took great care of the old lady's property while construction was ongoing as well as until her death. - 6/13/09, 11:14 AM

I remember seeing something about this on TV...
One little old lady refused to sell, so finally they just built around her. - 6/13/09, 11:16 AM

There was a similar one in Manhattan Kansas on third street, with the Steel and Pipe Supply built arround it. The person who owned it was adamant that the property could never be sold to steel and pipe. Alas, S&P moved, and the city acquired the property. they then condemned the house and built a strip mall of sorts. Most of the land is sitting unused, McAlisters Delly, PetCo, and Best Buy. Another situation where government stole land then gave it to a developer.
