I spent the summer of 1955 working on a turkey farm near Friant California,that held 56,000 of the beauts, in all stages/ages of development.There were 40,000 white and 16,000 bronze...Hard to tell in the pictures but when you receive the chicks, they have already had their top beaks chopped off...Doesn't give them any problem eating or drinking, (they even eat strands of alfalfa), but it keeps them from severely harming or killing each other...Of course to break the rules, you still find the occasional dead bird because if one has a mar or blood on it's feathers, the others will peck at it and if you don't get that guy out, they'll kill him....My impression was that turkeys are afraid of everything that flies, including small aircraft, (we raised the properly bigger ones outdoors in pens with feeders, auto fill water troughs and shaders from the California sun)..,and will go into a violent panic at the sight and pile up on the fences, which neccesitates going amonst them and using booted feet to unpile them.....Heck, that was back in the dark ages...bet everything has changed now.
