When did this guy mention about giving up?
Couldn't he have promoted a fund drive like Day by day or Jerry Pournelle based on a public network system? I know people who expect the paypal button to be enough by itself. But usually, it is not.
A little helpful reminder (1 annual subscription drive) would seem to have done wonders.
A shame, for sure. - 7/30/09, 10:35 AM

Here's just a very small sample of his work -- The National Archives designated him an official source for Obama material. I'll bet every news agency in the country used his stuff, and never offered him a dime. JFC!

It's called marketing: either you do it or you don't.
If you expect folks to volunteer to pay just because there is a pay pal button on you page-you will be disappointed.
I think Day by Day's approach is a good example of how to do it.
Also: It's a good idea if someone send money to say "Thank you" at least set up a message in your auto responder receipt.
Or you use my approach: build a successful web based business and start slipping political & social commentary and links into the retail part:-)

I completely agree with donating to blogs that I read daily. I'm confused on how and when though. The way I address the issue is I pay a yearly subscription to each blog I read. I don't want to put you on the spot Roger...But, what is considered fair? How much should someone pay and how often. I would gladly contribute more if I knew what was expected. The information you provide is valuable and you deserve payment for all your efforts!

Thanks Jodi. This was not a backdoor plea for money, btw, although it looks like it in retrospect. In the past people have been moved by something (I think red whiskey more times than not) and have sent me money. Everything from $2 to $1000, CDs, and little gifts. Everything is appreciated, especially now. But mi problemo es su problemo. Most of us are facing difficult problems, so I'd say $500 a year should suffice as a minimum. :) (Don't you dare).

Read the bottom right box comment:
"No malpractice insurance required as attorney is on court ordered inactive status."
What court did the ordering and why?
Am I biting on a big fish hook???
