Top 50 Collegse/Universities

Ahem

Which state university cracked the top 15?
1. University of Chicago
2. Harvard University
3. Yale University
4. Princeton University
5. Amherst College
6. Stanford University
7. Brown University
8. Cornell University
9. University of Pennsylvania
10. Columbia University
11. Dartmouth College
12. University of Maryland
13. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
14. California Institute of Technology
15. Duke University
Top rated University of Chicago's citation includes this accolade:

The school has everything you could want. A diverse student body, high quality teachers, access to city life and an unsurpassed emphasis on research opportunities, even for undergrads.

WTF is a diverse student body?  And htf does that contribute to learning that Keynesian economics leads to disaster?  Perhaps a focus on more diversity in ideology, and less on skin color would yield a more salutary result.  It's difficult to recognize the validity of a list that includes every Ivy League institution -- where, as a matter of policy, PC trumps truth every time, and attempting to curriculate Western Civilization will get your tenures ripped off, and you fired!   But enough bitterness. Let's enjoy small  blessings, eh?  Say, where's Duke?  Oh, I see.  Snucked in at 15.  How about UNC and Virginia?  Oh my.  There will be wailing and gnashing  in Chapel Hill and Charlottesville.  Ooh-rah! Now I have the gravitas thing. Go Terps!

H/T Chicago Boyz, where Unions Are Grounded in Violence  may also be read.

And just where in the name of Sweet Fanny Adams is The Ohio State University?

Too hayseed to make the list Gayle.

My dad, a lawyer, noted that when we moved to Maryland from Chicago, a Georgetown law degree was only recognized by the federal gummint. As a result, the place was soon crawling with them, and Georgetown's rep grew as their influence in keeping us in our places grew, not the result of better tutoring (initially).

I don't diminish the innate talent or aptitudes of those admitted to these elite colleges, but four years of schooling in one is very often harmful to them and, ultimately, to the nation. I'll take an OSU grad every time, unless I'm building a particle accelerator.

Hmmmmm....not seeing Clemson or FSU on the list. Not proud, but my alma matar WAS (at one time) the top Liberal Arts college in the nation (St. Mary's College of Maryland). Hey! It was cheap at the time and not so liberal....

Doug - how's the annual contest between the two teams working out for you!? Seems to me that Jim Tressel has your number pretty good!
