How did I miss this? By boycotting the cinema, that's how. Rescue Dawn is the true story
of Navy Lt. Dieter Dengler's (Christian Bale) capture, and escape from
the Pathet Lao after being shot down over Laos. As intense
as this film was (7 stars out of five), it was a much needed holiday
from our real life prick Obamunists.
Bonus: Director Werner Herzog shot a documentary (Little Dieter Needs To Fly) in 1997 using the real Dieter Dengler. You can watch the whole thing here, in full YouTube Cinerama. |
scream-of-consciousness; "If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."

I thought Dieter's obsession with having food stored in his house was interesting. He and his family really had a hard time during and right after WWII.

The film portrayed some of Dieter's fellow prisoners as real POS's. Some of the family members of those prisoners have disputed their portrayal in the movie.

You're speaking of Eugene from Eugene. His family maintained he "acted heroically during his imprisonment, refusing to leave while some sick prisoners remained, but Herzog was unaware of this fact until after the film had been completed. Herzog states that this narrative aspect probably would have been included had he learned it earlier."(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_DeBruin
I wonder how I would recact under those circumstances.
