In an open, free society, parents should be allowed to take their children out of school for part of a day, a whole day, or even several days without justifying their action to anygoddambody.
When I kept my kids from going to school, I let the school know out of courtesy. Once it was because I was coming home from a 7 month deployment to the Gulf of Tonkin, and their mother and I felt it would be good for them to see the ship pull in and the other families greeting husbands and fathers and the Navy band and all that. School (LBeach, CA) thought it was a good idea, too. -
