Fort Hood Fallout

GHACK!

I puckishly commented on a post about the Fort Hood murders that we'd soon be hearing cries to "Ban guns in the military"  More prescient than puckish, that now seems.
My heart goes out to the victims of the Fort Hood and Orlando shootings and their loved ones. Senseless, senseless incidents. I will not go quietly into the night on this one. America needs to do something about idiots with handguns. How many more Fort Hoods and Orlandos do there have to be before our political leaders have the guts to severely restrict access to murderous weapons?

View From The Porch mistress Tam (think Agent Bedhead's scalpel in Kim du Toit's hands) earlier launched on Lt. Gen. Robert Cone for rationalizing the defenseless condition troops were in with "this is our home.  We're supposed to be safe ... "
Sure, General, your troops were "safe at home"... in a war with no fronts.

They were every bit as safe at home as the crews of the USS Cole or the battleship Arizona. Safe at home like the Marines in their barracks in Beirut.

An army at war does not have the luxury of "safe at home". Do you think the bomber crews of the Mighty Eighth landed in southern England after pasting the hell out of the Nazis and called out "Olly olly oxen free! We're safe at home now; we'll be putting on our slippers and lighting a pipe. No fair bombing us 'til tomorrow, Adolf!" or do you think they made sure that there were plenty of slit trenches, anti-aircraft guns, and armed guards on the base?
And this seems as good a time as any to throw this e-mail out there.
Civilian officers Kimberly Munley and Mark Todd arrived minutes later. They found the shooter outside, standing about 15 yards away, calmly firing at people as they ran.
"I yelled at him, 'Stop! Drop the weapon!' And that's when he raised his weapon and fired a couple of shots at me," Todd told CNN.
Munley and Todd took cover, the gunman walked behind a building, and the two officers apparently became separated. Todd said he went around the other side of building and exchanged gunfire with the shooter, who flinched, slid down against a telephone pole and fell onto his back.
The confrontation was over in less than a minute, Todd estimated. By then, Munley was down with gunshot wounds to both legs and a wrist. Todd said he did not know whether his fellow officer had wounded the shooter; earlier reports had Munley and the gunman wounding each other in an exchange of gunfire.

Is Kimberly Munley another Jessica Lynch?  Sorry for the cynicism.  I just cannot allow myself to take anything at face value these days.

That's my read. Let's see who the bullets in the shooter belong too. At least one of them has to be Todd's. Todd also took the weapon from Hasan, and cuffed him. Seems the medics had trouble getting him uncuffed to treat him. Pity that.

What these pinheads cannot seem to get past is the fact that the U.S. Constitution GUARANTEES us the right to our guns AND our religion! And to put up with idiots like them without bitch slapping them upside the head!

I remember working on the flight line at night in Mag-11 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The guards had flashlights and radios, that's all. Only PMO had loaded weapons and they were two miles away. Most of the F-18's for the 1st Marine Divion, protected by chain link.

Aw shucks, close enough. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINES, OOH RAH!

I agree. I don't think liberals should own handguns.

"...restrict access to murderous weapons...".

I have a number of "murderous weapons" in my house but they must like me since, so far, I haven't been murdered by them.

Peter King needs to stick with something as vapid as pro football and avoid the more complex issues like interpreting "shall not be infringed."

Most pro football players look like they are crips, vice lords, Latin Kings, Outlaws, Mongols, etc.

And the league is worried about Rush owing an interest in a franchise.

Which is all rather ironic because Carroll Rosenbloom, who owned the franchise before dying under rather mysterious cirucmstances about 15 years ago, was a chronic gambler who was frequently in Pete Rozell's doghouse.

Carroll Rosenbloom was also a former business partner of Meyer Lansky's in a Havanna casino.

Quite the merry widow, Georgia Rosenbloom (whose estate is now trying to peddle the Rams franchise) remarried after what must have been a very trying and difficult 2 month mourning period.

God forbid a disc jockey from the Missouri bootheel buying a franchise with this kind of history and pedigree.

Rush needs to buy a NASCAR team.

And now I see the KC Chiefs have fired a player for making a homophobic remark.

He could call a woman a bitch, a black person a n....., and a white person whitey, but imagine the outrage about making a remark about gay people.

Who cares what people call each other?

He could be an ex-con, someone who organizes dog fights, and pretty much anything else, but he can't upset the PC gods.

What a bunch of tripe.

Note to Peter King - we don't care who played yesterday and we don't care who's playing tonight.

Your rants and writings are utterly inconsequential.

And your parent magazine is going bankrupt as a result of its vacuous, shrinking content.

What Casca said. MSM loves their fantasy world, where Wonderwoman rules and Superman is a klutz. Some women can keep up with or beat some men in a fight, but not on average, even though Sam Colt made some fights more equal.

Any cop who answers a "shots fired" call is a hero in my book, and both cops should have been commended, but in this case the MSM could not resist Jessica the Heroine Puts Up a Fight and Saves All, Part II regardless of what the facts were, because that is what they wanted to hear. I hadn't heard the male cop even mentioned until today.
It's that kind of PC fantasy that won't name the enemy (unless it's a white male), that won't name the hero unless he/she fits the template, that gins up troop-killing ROE, that gives a general half the troops he needs, that promotes incompetence in business and diminishes our national capacity to do the important things that are in our national interest. Disgusting.
