Never heard of a 28 gauge. I got a 20 gauge for Christmas when I was 16.

Tim,
You must be a city boy, I got a Winchester Model 12 in 16 Ga. w/28" bbl. and Mod. choke for my 10th birthday. And since my dad worked for the Olin Corp., he got it at the company store. Still have the gun BTW. I've only sold one gun I owned and I've regretted it ever since.

These pics warm my heart.
Of course, these boxes probably contained ammo that was purchased at the local (i.e. family-owned) hardware store.
The guns they were shot it were probably purchased at the same hardward store.
Like the line in Bocephus' "Revenge" says - "Went down to the Mary Carter Paint Store to get me one of them Smith and Wesson 44s."
Got a lightweight Rem. 1100 20ga with a 28ga receiver when I was ten. Sure was a nice gun. My sisters kid chases quail around the Black Kettle grass lands in Oklahoma with it now.
I told my 4 year old son he could have any gun in my safe that he liked . I opened the doors , he took a step up into the safe , he looked around , and put his little finger on a 28 gauge beretta over and under ! I almost cried : ) smibsid
28 Gauge = .55" bore diameter.
Kinda fallen by the wayside, along with the 16 gauge one ounce deer ball.
