That one goes a bit too far.
It takes too long to recover for a followup shot.
I shoot a Ruger SRH in .480 ( a short .475 Linebaugh ) with a 9.5" barrel ... I can make follow-up shots with that, and easily hit man-sized targets at 100 yards.
I can put 5 rounds inside the 9-ring @ 25 yards with it in under 5-seconds. It's like any other magnum; you have to get used to it and manage the weapon instead of having the weapon manage you. My biggest problem with the S&W .500 Magnum is the cost to shoot it. Those bullets are NOT cheap - even to reload.
X frames... yawn.
N frames are where it's at. Particularly .44spl N frames.
Like good jazz, If you don't understand that, there is no use explaining it, you won't understand.
RAK
Good Lord.
While I'm sure it'd give you mucho bragging rights, there is such a thing as "too much".
(Now, a .50 cal Barrett semi auto is perfectly ok: http://www.barrett.net/firearms/model95)
My ears are still ringing from standing in the adjacent lane to a guy firing one of those, last Saturday.
Seeing that shockwave tells me why my elbow still hurts today. Damn!
Too damned big IMO, still.
But then I don't like the recoil of the .454 version of my pistol ... methinks this one is on the far side of the utility envelope.
