We already have "Cornhusker Cash" and "Cajun Cash" bribes, so what do we call the GM bribery to switch from Toyota to GM? Detroit Dollars?
tomw
Uhh no, that would still be obumble/government/taxpayer dollars, ie. theft under color of law.
Hell, GM can now sell cars for $1 and put all of the other car manufacturers out of business... Since they'd be stealing our f*ing money to pay for it anyway.
Ok, I have stated this before and will restate it. I will never buy a Jap car - the things my Father was put through in WWII leave me no recourse. The Japs did not think they were doing anything wrong and that is the part I cannot ever forgive or forget.
OTOH GM is also on the shit list as is Chrysler (which will go under anyway of its own incompetence). We will never have another new GM or Chrysler car in this house - cannot abide the messiahs dealings nor the fact that the UAW owns so much of it. I hate unions - my Dad was forced to join National Maritime Union just to work and they never did a damn thing for them except take his money and make him go on strike when the union thugs were not getting a big enough cut of the pie. They don't give a flying fu(# about the members - only what they can skim and scrape off the backs of the members.
Ok the rant is over now you can go back to your regularly scheduled beatings.

Sorry, bolivar, but my "Jap car" corolla is more American that a bunch of Chevy and Ford products. All the main components of the Corolla are built in America (transmission, engine, chassis, electronics, interior) and final assembly takes place here.
And GM -- better quality? That's a f'ing laugh. No way. No how. Not even close.
"initial quality" doesn't count. That's just a measure of how much the dude likes it the day after driving it home. Let's look at the differences 5 and 10 years on. No comparison.
Sorry, but American ENGINEERED cars are 10 years behind the Japanese. Gotta pay for all those union benefits somehow and if the money is going to that, it's not going into the car you drive off the lot.
How about Nissan?
Anon@11:25> I disagree. I think you are exaggerating the difference. Perhaps you have not inspected recent models. From what I read recently, the Fusion hybrid puts Toyota and Honda to shame. Chevy claims to have more models with higher MPG than Toyota. [and Honda, too remembering the advert with the lawnmower...]
That said, I think all of the domestics have improved their product.
The UAW made clear their objective when they said they'd sell off the equity they were given by Obanocchio ahead of bond holders. They didn't have enough belief in their own ability to build quality vehicles, and not be adversary to management. Ford is in a pickle when contract time comes up. Dealing with a union that owns the competition.
Some of the Nissans are built in Smyrna, Tennessee, but I couldn't state the content percent. See the sticker...

Anon @11:25 - sorry you don't agree but I don't give a flying fig. We have bought 2 Ford Fusion's and they have both been fine vehicles. I have to admit, some Chryslers look pretty but, they fall apart or flat out won't work.
As for the "Japanese" cars they include Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru and Mitsubishi. Some of these same companies built the devices that helped murder millions of innocents in China and elsewhere AND their policies and soldiers destroyed the lives of many of our GI's. If you don't appreciate that - you are in the wrong country my friend. Go to Japan, they may appreciate you more - come to think of it no they won't.
When your Father comes home from war and his sleep is interrupted every night by screaming nightmares and the atrocities committed upon and in view of them were so bad they will NOT talk of them to anybody you can sit on your high horse. Otherwise keep yer trap shut. They all kept theirs shut because they were taught to do so and to do otherwise was wrong. I miss him every day and when I think of the awful things he had to see and endure I just weep.
