So who's the big winner in the SCOTUS campaign finance decision? The candidates? No, it just changes the rules a bit. We the people? Tell me how.
No, the big winner is the media. Where does all the money spent on campaign advertising end up?
The SCOTUS decision on Citizens United v FEC is great on so many levels.
-It permits unlimited use of advocacy ads, and just in time for the 2010 elections
-And while advocacy ads won't really matter until the fall, the ruling gives even more momentum to the Republicans now
-It's yet another repudiation of McCain-Feingold
But one of the best things about it is this: the case is a result of Democrats trying to ban a movie in an attempt to protect Hillary! during the 2008 primary. But she managed to lose anyway. So the Democrats basically slit their own throats--and for nothing.
As Rush is fond of saying, "Put a flaming bag of poo in front of a Democrat and they'll step in it every time."
I think the biggest winner is the first amendment, which dearly needed a victory.
Amen.
I've never heard Rush say that about flaming poo.
M/F was unconstitutional prima facia. Let the old bastard reap what he has sown.
