Jack Valenti was pretty good at getting his way to protect their 'intellectual property' from expiring trademarks, etc.
Mickey Mouse [1928? Steamboat Willy] is still protected.

On the other hand, the BigPharma has been almost totally unable to keep their patents and such on prescription drugs -- which keep people alive.

Which is worth more in the long run? Cartoons or Health?

If you go to a real theater, do they put on the same 'trailers, previews and FBI warnings'?

I´m with Gus and Call on this. Horse theft, I can´t abide. Oh, and watch more cartoons and your health WILL improve.

James, I must point you to the story of Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. Once upon a time, they had a radio show, and were all the rage, but they refused to make audio recordings of their music, because who would listen to their program if they could listen to records instead? Fred ended up making blenders in San Diego.

Same thing happened when video tape came along. Much handwringing over the end of movie theaters.

Reality is that the more exposure an artist has in the market place, the more demand there is for said artist's work.

The obscene copyright laws that exist today are a drag on our economy, particularly when you factor in software, which has a useful life of about five years, but is copyrighted so that others may not use it as work to build on because it is legally encumbered.

All must be free to drink from the well, withing reasonable limits of course.

True enough, but when I drink, I often pay the bartender.
