You should'a been at the party for Bill Marvel's promotion to Captain at LA Air Force Station back in the late-'70s. I think the LA Times published a picture of him in costume.

In my area we had a Lt. Morgan who worked hard to earn her next promotion.

For months people would visit her office and place one foot up on the chair.

I served in a unit which had a Petty Officer named Ensign, and an Ensign named Officer. I often bemoaned the quirk of fate which kept us from a Petty Officer Officer, or an Ensign Ensign. But, you gotta work with what ya got.
