Pakistan didn't split. Ghandi gave the muslims half of Punjab, the traditional Sikh homeland in the post-colonial partition. Over a million people died in the ensuing year of cross-border violence. Lahore was the traditional capital of Punjab and the Sikhs....almost none live there now.
I lived three years in Punjab (India side) about 12 miles from this border. Passions still run deep there. - 3/11/10, 3:56 PM
