*heh*
Well, bein' a motorcyclist, perhaps *heh* is not the right reaction.
That there's what's called, in systems-engineering terms, a failure to adequately define the problem set compounded by an operational over-dependence on pilot aids.

Dang, I hope that wasn't real. - 8/7/10, 11:09 AM

Don't know if it's fake or not but the chick with the mic is freaking hot, so I'll watch it a couple times...

It's hard to be sure. It could be a fake, but her reaction feels genuine. The tech she describes is far-fetched but just within the realm of believable. If it's faked, it's pretty good.
The big hole is that I can't see ANY experienced motorcyclist shooting out into the road without looking both ways. It's possible if he was nervous or distracted which he could be by the video crew and upcoming demo, but very unlikely. It's automatic, you just do it. And if they were going to test something like this wouldn't they do it on a closed road? If you knew it wasn't closed, wouldn't you be even more careful?

It's a fake ... The moving "truck" was added animation.
As for watching for drivers looking at the motorcyclist before pulling out: Ludicrous.
Both of the retards that struck me ( back when I was a kid ) looked right through me, and then pulled out into my way.
Motorcycles are invisible to motorists in daydream mode. Not unusual, and not dangerous ... so the driver's subconscious will roll right over them, and then nudge you awake afterward because of the thumping under the car. - 8/7/10, 5:01 PM

IMHO, it's very well done PS, right up there with a Monty Python skit. The truck has swerved left of center, the nose is down from hard braking and there is a puff of smoke off the locked up rt. rear tire, but the crash sound didn't ring true. But how come we didn't see some 'special' helmet details?

I can verify by my own experience two years ago, that a driver will look right at you then pull out causing you to put it down to avoid him. He will then leave the scene because he is an illegal with no insurance and a fake license.

I don't need a helmet cam to know what was distracting him, Seriously good, but still not worth the Darwin Award.

Re: motorists "seeing" the biker
They do.
However, a bike doesn't seem to exist in their database of things not to pull out in front of.
I've looked eye-ball-to-eyeball with drivers who then pulled right out in front of me as if I weren't there.
To add motorcycles to their database, I try to pass, horn blaring, finger gesturing as soon as possible.
Don't know if that works, but a little database update once in a while can't hurt. - 8/8/10, 2:48 PM
