Youth is a dramatic age, but in the words of Marty Marr in The Long Grey Line, "Some die young, and some die old, but they all give their lives for their country."
Instead of the maudlin take, I prefer the satisfaction of at some point in life being part of something that was important, a satisfaction few civilians find.
Casca
Casca .. you continue to impress.
This kind of stuff gets to me because I know that I owe them. I owe them more than I can ever know.

"Dulce et Decorum est pro Patria Mori."
This concept was not invented by humans but came from animal, especially canine observation.
In the words of Vicki Hearne
in "Adams' Task", about fighting Pit Bull Terriers:
"In their vision, gameness include
the capacity to choose knowingly, nobility and triumph over mere survival - Death before Dishonor."
So with humans too, when the group get threatened, some,
from the dawn of times, will always step forward and get killed for the common survival.
Ironic that leftists celebrate those that cower behind women and
children like muslim leaders do...
"We shall not die for Dantzig", whined the Gandhian pacifists...
Got those damn eye sweats again.
