Cartoonic license:
In the original legend, Rudolph used a Viking-styled sword, not a katana; and, of course, it predated the invention of tobacco by Jews. - 12/19/10, 4:33 PM

Pardon ME Doug, But I am pretty dang sure it Seax.
"The seax, or sax, was universal in Northern Europe. Carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Vikings, Rain deer, Elves and German tribes, its use probably dated before the fall of Rome and continued on into the early Middle Ages."
Close, but no cigar.

Next the Flying Nun has a mid-air with Santa. The Caliph of D.C. decalres a Fatwah against both of them. Ms. Macabee saran wraps his toilet and the Caliph goes catonic when the sacred Wookie demands that he clean up his own mess.
Meanwhile the Pope and a Divison of Italien paratroopers drop into Istanbul crying "Were taking it back!" - 12/20/10, 12:12 AM

RAK,
Yeah, looking at the effect, it could, indeed, been a schwerer breitsax or a atypischer breitsax; and the runes on my legend stone are kind'a faint. I may have been fooled by the original photographs of Rudolph which show him with a kind of post-migration period, perhaps even a Vendel period or a Krefeld-type spatha called a hildemece. On the other hand, one of the more dubious portraits shows one that looks quite like Hrunting, if my Beowulf serves, so I certainly could be confused. I'll ask Santa. - 12/21/10, 4:35 AM
