News From the Farm

NYT advises Dems to shut down the government
and blame it on Republicans --

Mr. Biden and the Senate should make it clear to the freshman House members who are really driving their chamber’s position that they will not permit reckless cuts this year. Then let the freshmen explain to an angry public why they closed the government’s doors to score ideological points. [...]
Napoleon with news from the farm

Republicans claim they will not agree on a penny less than $61 billion, which is too little for some more aggressive freshmen. If the Democrats try to compromise on even half that amount, they will be still be doing enormous damage to many programs and threatening a recovery that is starting to show signs of real life.

The fiscal crisis of the federal government, states, cities and school districts could be solved simply by raising the taxes on the rich and on corporations. We should not be cutting school funding and laying off teachers, on the contrary we should be expanding education to make it free from K to Ph.D., as it was in some state only a few decades ago. We should not be cutting back public services, but rather expanding them by creating a single payer health care system, one that provides free health care to all.
I'm sorry, that last paragraph is from the Socialist Party USA's screed. I get them confused with the NYT.

Wreckless spending is OK, then, just as long as we have no "wreckless cuts?"
WHat a bunch of MFCS's.

Why is shutting down the gov such a threat? They aren't paying me anything, the local folks take care of crime and the roads, and business brings in all the food and stuff. So who cares? Oh, and 99.5% of my mail is catalogs and junk. I pay all my bills online anyway.

What if they shut down the federal government and nobody noticed?
