Nixon's fall was the end of the press as we knew it. They drank of the power and lost objectivity. Like Cronkite (a**hole) they became advocates and worked to change public opinion instead of just informing us. It is costing them. Schadenfreude here boss!

That particular little tragedy is older than you think.
Teddy Roosevelt was well known for his manipulation of the press. It was not for their opposition that he lost, finally.
It took 37 years for the press to fall apart? Hmmm.
I'm thinking Watergate has nothing here. Perhaps a shift in news readership, the way we want to consume information, and the value we put on it.
Does any body actually get a newspaper any longer? How much do you pay for your internet news feeds?
