Surely you don't mean to suggest that certain politicians exaggerated the threat potential. 'Cause as we've seen, the really scary commies are the ones we elect right here amongst us, doing their best to disguise their true objectives behind words of hope and fear.

"It's my sense that White House defense decisions are putting this great republic on the fast track for decline...The logic has been simply baffling to me. Expand our military commitments while cutting our armed forces." - Rep. Buck McKeon, R-CA

Rodger, please don't post this, but it's "Sometimes", damn it, not "Sometime's"

Reminds me of the WWII-era Bugs Bunny cartoons where they were working in the armaments factories testing for artillery shell duds with a hammer...

What's the problem? They're just cutting a fuse.

Somebody stole the pin spanner wrench and sold it for Vodka probably. They are probably trying to get the booster charge out an old round. It is not like it is the primary fuse. Nothing to worry ab......BOOM!

LCTGDick,
Yeah, sheesh! What dolts!
Everybody knows you cut the fuse with the sharp end of the hatchet.

Judging from the looks on their faces and the fact they have the striped shirts of the Spetz, I git the idea there is an officer about a hundred yards away who ordered this.

Somehow the guy thinks that by closing his eyes his vision will be saved if it goes off.

"what we ever feared during the Cold War"

These guys know exactly what kind of quality control the munitions factory that produced the round has, yet they still found 3 dudes willing not only to get within the blast radius, but willing to beat on the #$@#$@ thing with a hatchet?

Giant brass balls and abject stupidity is a really dangerous combination.

There are so many possible back stories here involving hangovers, tying to think about the last sexual encounter, and etc.
Somewhat off topic but there is a story going around that one old Russian general when speaking about the the performance of NATO vs. Libya said something to the effect,"That is what we were afraid of!? We could have been in France in two months!"
