Suckers
Keep on truckin'
Mexico is so in the thrall of  murderous drug cartels that the Mexican policia, those who are not active cartel killers themselves, are afraid to go into Mexico.  So is the army.  Plus, the US is absolutely inundated by Mexican illegals who devastate budgets and make a mockery of US law.  States that attempt to control some of the 9-15 million  illegals, however,  are attacked by the Obama Department of Justice.  So what's the  best thing to do right now?  Why yes.  Resolve a 15-year common-sensical dispute by giving Mexican truckers free reign on American highways.  Why didn't I think of that?

Sieur de France: I think you are wrong this time. I spend a lot of time in Mexico because my actual home is Canada and for parts of the year it becomes a trifle unpleasant up here due to 30-30 - minus degrees and feet of snow.

Anyway, Mexico - quite safe mostly and nice hard working people. Tell me, if you could trade a Acapulco, with its few criminals, for say Chicago, or Berkley, would you? I personally feel as safe walking around in Mexico as I do in any large American city. White boy, there are places you and I just don't go, all over the USA.

And how best to deal with the illegal issue than by making Mexico richer? How to do that? Trade. Free trade, and plenty of it, lashings of free trade.

The illegal alien problem sometimes makes conservative Americans forget that Mexico is a huge market. So start thinking of stuff to buy from them and stuff to sell them back. Transportation costs just got reduced. Is the USA the second greatest commercial nation ever or what? Don't just sit there, sell something.

A few years ago my wife won an a contest called "Millionaire's Vacation". The mansion in which we stayed, overlooking Acapulco bay was the most beautiful place I have ever seen, located on a street full of equally spectacular villas. One afternoon my wife and I decided to take a walk. The servants were shocked. They strongly advised against it, almost forcibly restraining us. We walked out of the front gate and proceeded down the street. After we had gone no more than a hundred yards we noticed we were being followed by a white van with the cargo door open. We soon realized it was most of the staff of the villa armed to the teeth with rifles and shotguns. The locals knew best, soon after we left (within a year) the villa suffered an armed invasion style robbery in the middle of the night. They last we heard the villa (Villa Dolce Vita) was closed.

Fred Z:

The areas you are staying at are armed camps. The folks protecting your ass are very good at hiding their weapons from Euros and Canadians.

I suggest you start going to Vadero Beach in Cuba, unless you want to become a statistic.

More Chaos is always A Good Thing...

...when you're desire is to be the person[s] to whom the citienry turns to make the chaos go away.

...just sayin'

Armed camps? Nonsense. I stay in small towns around Puerto Vallart up as far north and East as Durangoa, and PV itself. I rent locally owned houses and condos, in ordinary neighborhoods, with no security, and I walk and drive everywhere.

Come on my conservative friends, you know the media lie their pink arses off, what makes you think this is different? Think really hard - why does the media want you to hate trade with Mexico? Given they hate all business, would they lie to you about Mexico? Or rather, how much would they lie? Kind of answers itself, dunnit?

Fred, you're a Canuck, so we know off the bat, NQR (Not Quite Right). Mexico is an organized crime safehaven on our Southern border. It's that simple. Heinous shit happens over there all the time, and God forbid if some predator thinks he can make a buck off your pasty white ass.

Fred Z:
You can travel or stay in Mexico safely by staying the hell away from the border, and by keeping a low profile, yes.

Travel a bit further up the coast, and it is a different story. Be a bit less quiet, and the story will also change.

Underneath "VIVA MEXICO" it ought'a say "FOR CARTEL USE ONLY" on that ass.

Kristophr said...

Oh, and that one Canadian who was reported killed in PV did exactly that ... he traveled outside of the protected area, and he opened his big mouth about how well off he was.

Didn't take long for some rough folks to pick him up outside town, drive him to his home and safe there, and leave his body next to his opened safe.

Kristo:

Sorry, still disagree. The Canucki who was killed was effectively a Mexican. He lived there for 6 years and ran a substantial business. His killing was pretty clearly an inside job.

As for Casca the anonymous, saying that as a Canadian, I'm Not Quite Right, I respond, formally: Bite me, American assh*le. Are you a lawyer?

Hey Fred: I'd tell you to go eff yourself, but I'm quite sure your luck in Mexico will run out sooner rather than later, and some cartel member will do that nasty little chore for you.

H the Comet, American assh*le.
USA! UAS! USA!

P.S. You ain't the snarky little waiter in Victoria who gave me a lecture about how Bill Clinton was so great and all, early March 1995, are you? Still waiting for your tip that I didn't leave you? Well here's your tip: Enjoy yourself in Mexico, sucker.

growing up in the South west, I watched Mexico change. Family friends not longer travel there to there leases- we used to go every Easter vacation no more.
You can choose to be willfully ignorant- you may never have a problem. But You may also find yourself in a pit outside of Alcupolco with several other dead touristas.

Wonder if Fred knows about the family that was robbed of their motorhome by the Policia... They were lucky, as they got out alive. This in Baja CA on a main N-S route, I think near the beach within the last 6-8 months. IIRC
Sorry, they have changed from 1971 when I was last in Acapulco. Then, the only problem was the falling apart brand new Hyatt, etc, brand new hotels. Concrete and mortar that just didn't hang together, tile loose in the sidewalk, stuff falling of the wall, etc. Right off RefTra, we got a couple days there, and it was gorgeous, but even then you could see there was something wrong with the almost absolute money divide. Poor & wretched or Mr Moneybags. Nothing in between.

Exactly, Tomw.

I have never been so damned scared as when I was dealing with federales.

If you anger them, you just fucking disappear.

The mexican nationals with money have no problem with any of this. They're busy buying million dollar homes in places like The Dominion in San Antonio, where security mans the gates 24/7.
