Same old stuff.
Appointees fighting with the Posties union.
All of the new hires for the Christmas rush are always < 6 month temps.
A simpler solution would be to allow UPS and Fed Ex to deliver mail, and allow property owners to forbid unsolicited junk mail.

I laugh at the idea that junk mail is an imposition. It helps finance the postal system and you can toss it. But I still marval at the how the biggest supporters of dems will be hurt by dem policies. Will minorities be better off with government rationed health care? Will the unions? There wont be any private doctors so they'll have to use what we get. And will the trial lawyers get just as rich sueing the government for malpractice? With Uncle Sam let them?

Sadly, it's just talk. The union has a no-layoff clause so it's not going to happen. Just guessing that sobbing Dems will insist on the 8 billion bail out. That's how these things are fixed.

Probably should have added that the founders weren't thinking of situations like this when they mandated a postal system. Unionized government employees is just a nutty idea and the founders had no idea it would ever happen. The real fix is an amendment to eliminate the USPS. Think there would be nobody to pick up the slack? Of course that won't happen either.

Rodge,
You proposed selling the USPS to UPS years ago in your '30% budget reduction plan' and I'm pretty much on board with that.
However, I'd put all the post offices up for auction individually. Sure, offices like the one in Barstow, MD, aren't going to fetch the shiniest of pennies, but the ones in LA, SF, NYC, etc, will. To hell with the unions. Let them see what it's like to actually work. If they're good enough to hire back then they'll have a job. - 8/12/11, 10:14 PM

Tim: If the post office was not a government institution, they could be sued for constantly shoveling junk on your porch.
Fuck them if they can't earn a living honestly.

Junk mail is delivered at a loss, every person who buys a stamp subsidizes the junk.

The Left lost it's little mind when states put limits on unions so what's it gonna do when Obama breaks the USPS union contract to lay off 120,000? I can't see it even happening- more likely they'll be paid to sit on their asses un retirement than be laid off- but if Obama does it the crapstorm from the unionistias will be glorious to watch.
