Mr. Ponzi, I Presume?

Mr. Ponzi, I Presume?

It's Free

After the debate, the Romney campaign slammed Perry for standing by his earlier statement that social security is a Ponzi scheme. 'It is a Ponzi scheme to tell our kids that are 25 or 30 years old today, you're paying into a program that's going to be there,' said Perry at the debate. 'Anybody that's for the status quo with Social Security today is involved with a monstrous lie to our kids, and it's not right.'

The Romney campaign seized on the remarks, saying that someone who believed that could not win the Republican primary, much less a general election." Can America elect a president who understands basic math? So far the evidence is against it.

THE HILL is representative of the media hysteria over the "Ponzi Debacle."

Here is the basic problem Perry has: For 70 years, Social Security has been one of the most popular and productive programs to help senior citizens. Republicans and Democrats have supported it.

Big surprise.  People who got something for nothing like it.  But, is it a Ponzi scheme Mr. Hill Magazine?

The term Ponzi scheme has a very specific meaning for the type of swindle originating with Charles Ponzi in 1919 and continuing with the likes of Bernie Madoff. It promised quick and sure returns, used new, voluntary investors to pay old ones and is inherently a sham.

Blah-blah-blah Hill—   We knew what a Ponzi scheme is, so tell us why Social Security isn't one!

.... the key is that this is not “voluntary.”

Oh.  Well, there you have it.  It's not a Ponzi scheme because gummint can actually kill you if you resist tax collectors.  It's all so easy now.

By-the-by,  I'm sure someone can elucidate me here, but I haven't yet read or heard where Perry said he wants to "abolish Social Security,"  not that it's a bad idea.  I do find leftards putting the words in his mouth, like this guy

– Speaking to a crowd of supporters near the Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas Governor Rick Perry said if he has his way he will put an end to “all the freebies” and start by getting rid of Social Security, Medicare, and Free Speech.

Okay, so it's a Ponzi scheme by coercion. But it's still a freakin' Ponzi scheme.

Of course Social Security is a Ponzi scheme. It's just that we point it out that enrages the lefties. Just another good reason to point it out again and again.

Check out Rick Santelli telling Thomas Friedman he is an idiot on CNBC on the subject. Very worthwhile Thomas Friedman is an idiot and he is fat.
