UN ATTACK! ...

ATTACK ATTACK

I just went into the kitchen to get coffe and this is what I see out the window!  UN soldiers rappelling into my yard.  They must  be airborne and parchuted.  I can't remember the combination to the gun safe!  Woe  is me.
BG&E tree trimmers

Uh - never mind.

Rule of thumb: unless you're in the shower, you should never be more than 25 feet away from a loaded gun. Then, when UN soldiers parachute into your yard [eyecross], you'll be ready for action.

Actually, the first part of the above sentence is quite true. The Mrs. heard a strange noise the other night, but didn't panic; she just reached over to her gun and checked to see if it was ready to go (it was). No stress, no worries.

Ditto bedside. Nothing says "peace of mind" like a .357 revolver or shotgun (or both, in my case) right next to where you're sleeping.

When trouble comes, there's no warning siren.

"When trouble comes, there is no warning siren"

Au contraire-with 2 light sleeping GSDs at my side 24/7, I sleep like a baby.

Of course on the other side is my Sig P239 and my rule of thumb as to distance and a loaded gun is never out of reach. It only takes one time to let your guard down.

Nothing like a German Shepherd bitch sleeping on the floor by your bed
and ready to let go a bark at 3 am sharp enough to crack glass
at the first possum slowly crawling on the telephone or utility line in the backyard...

No mercy for the crawlies...

See? I was right about that "UN blue" color making great targets...

I love and respect you sir, and miss your blog somethin awful, but: "Rule of thumb: unless you're in the shower, you should never be more than 25 feet away from a loaded gun."

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!

That's why S&W makes STAINLESS steel revolvers and why the M&P 9, 40, 45, & .357 Sig series is plastic framed and has a STAINLESS steel slide. With premium materials and frequent proper cleaning and lubrication, quality handguns ARE wash and wear!

The loaded handgun should rest on top of the towel rack next to the shower within easy arms reach while you bathe.

"Rule of thumb: you should never be more than 2.5 feet away from a loaded gun."

There, fixed it for you!

Armageddon Rex, you ought to consider nickel plated ammo for your bathroom gun. Steam on brass quickly leads to corrosion. Just saying.

Two steps, or even four, is more doable for most of us than 2.5 feet. I can only afford to hide so many guns around the house in those false picture frames, hollow mantel clocks, hollow books and so forth.

Of course, I could CCW in my own home, but finding a holster that doesn't pull my jammie bottoms down is a tough one.

Mossberg makes the stainless-steel Mariner version of their 500 .12 gauge pump shotgun. Perfect for the shower.
