Sheep deserve to be shorn. A citizen would never stand for this. Subjects will, without saying a word.
Guess what they are becoming? - 5/26/12, 11:28 AM

"...count them more accurately at the beginning of the school day to help offset cuts in state funding..."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the number one reason for this abomination.
Wonder how long before the students find a way around it? (And they SHOULD!) - 5/26/12, 11:33 AM

Put the card in a microwave oven for 30 seconds.

In fact, a school in California gave up the program ( after spending a crapload of cash on it ) for exactly that reason:
Students would just microwave their IDs ... and if given a replacement ID, microwave that as well.
The district could not use the data to prove attendance and get money for processing kids ... which was what this was all about in the first place. - 5/26/12, 12:47 PM

The school computer club should offer, at cost, replication of the RFID chips.
That would really boost attendance.

That, or they should a metal case, you know, to keep their id safe and to protect it from stray microwaves.
...the readers won't be able to read it? Ah well, such is the price of keeping such a valuable card safe. - 5/26/12, 1:01 PM

Even barring human nature's desire to thwart a system, they're not going to be able to prove greater attendance. In fact, the opposite is much more likely. Be careful about creating foolproof systems, it makes it a lot harder to fudge the data.

...find the kid to volunteer for a "dangerous mission". Everyone else give that kid their ID cards. Volunteer goes to school, 100% attendance, 1 student attending.
Take turns, lather, rinse repeat. - 5/26/12, 1:32 PM

Some young "entrepreneur" would carry several ID's for a fee. - 5/26/12, 2:09 PM

I don't get the problem with this. Kids don't have or need rights in school, beyond the right not to be indoctrinated by lefty BS. I'm 22, five years removed from high school. 75%5 of kids out there are stupid and don't stay on campus when they ought.

Anon: If it was a private school tracking kids for their parents, then I would have no problem with this.
Government organizations are a different matter. - 5/26/12, 6:26 PM

Foiled even before it started, I just picked up these
little shielded envelopes for my
debit and credit cards with chips
that make them unreadable by crooks...

Remove chip, attach to pigeon, squirrel, local taxicab, bus, teachers car... the possibilities are endless !

Unfortunately, SA has a leftist, obama-sucking scumbag of a mayor named, appropriately enough, Castro, and a large hispanic population that loves him. Add to that all the goddammed california liberals that have been moving down here, it's reaching critical mass.
That's why I live in a small town called Boerne, and am happy that I no longer have children in school. - 5/27/12, 11:00 AM
