On the subject of stupid people ...

Oh Yeah!?!

After #8 ranked West Virgina (Mountaineers) edged Maryland on Saturday, this discussion thread caught me attention.

Mountaineer#1 - "that place laid the foundation for who I am. A lot of outsiders make fun of it and say negative things about West Virginia. Fuck them" - Jerry West

Terp #1 - I think Maryland ultimately wins, because, at the end of the day, we don't have to stay in West Virginia.

Mountaineer#2  - Tax

Terp #2 - They got us on taxes.... MD taxe code is awful

Terp#3 -That is why I now live in Texas

Terp#3 - SC for me

Mountaineer #3   Oh God yes

As a West Virginian now living in Maryland… thank God I don’t have to pay MD income taxes (military)

Meanwhile, each passing day brings more media discussion about Md Gov .Martin O'Malley's (The White Obama) chances in the 2016 presidential race.

In life, it isn't whether you win or lose. It's whether you beat the spread.

Roger, I pray for Maryland now that I have two grand-daughters who were born and live in the southern end of your state. Tough on an old Florida boy.

I take the I-81 approach to both MD and WV. Keep the windows rolled up and the right foot on the floorboards and it will all be over soon.

Or as my Martinsville friends say, "I am from Western Virginia, NOT West Virginia."

When I lived in Southern Maryland there was a best-in-the-world pit bbq place. Ribs untouched by honky hands, and were the best I ever had. It lasted until the owners divorced, a tragedy for all. The place was south of Brandywine (where I lived), in Waldorf. Sunday night at 10 p.m., when the nearby black church let out, there was a line twice around the block. Those were the days.

@Skoonj ,You have to be talking about "PENNIES"BBQ , on old 925 ! We would get a case of beer , a slab of ribs , drop the tailgate , and watch the cars go by . They were the best ! Thanks for reminding me ; ) > SMIBSID

SMIBSID, yes, I think that's the one. They also called that road Old Washington. Absolutely the finest ribs on earth. Just $10 for a slab.

I was at my Air National Guard squadron at Andrews one day, and one of the guys expressed a hankering for ribs. But only really good ones. I told him, and the other guys, I knew of just such a place where we could get them. They were willing to go there, about a 10 mile drive, on the lunch break, but I was told in no uncertain terms that "they better be good!"

We got them and got back in a hurry. I let the ribs do my talking for me. They were astonished at how good they were. And I've never been in a briefing room that smelled of all those great ribs ... at least six racks.

After Penny's closed I drove all over Southern Maryland looking for a substitute. I found a couple that were pretty good, in fields out in the middle of nowhere, but I've never run into ribs as good as Penny's.

The Dixie Pig, in Odenton, was the best in the area in the (very) early '80s. As I was getting ready to rotate out, I heard a rumor that they had run afoul of the Health Department - don't know how true it was, but if they're still there, it's probably not the same BBQ!

Pennies used to win the "BEST OF WASHINGTON" award every year , then the kids got fighting over it , and sadly it went away . They'd give you a whole loaf of "Wonder" white bread with each slab . The place was a gold mine , and proof that the lazy bastards can screw up anything . My Father used to be a bouncer at the "Country Castle" across the street , and all of the big old time country singers used to play there . I still have an old slot machine from the Southern Md. gambling days ! ; ) > SMIBSID

For all you folks worried about the character of mountain state residents, picture yourself in a barber shop in MD or WV, making the following statement:

"Obama really can't get a fair break from the Media-- if he just had one more term he'd really get something done."

There may be some scary rednecks out this way, but the culture of individual responsibly, personal freedom and voluntary community action is what America used to be like.
