Most people don't realize it, but this song was composed and first performed by Dolly Parton.

Tom, I did know that and frankly I think Dolly did it much better.

She wrote it after she divorced What's His Name. I would bet the sentiment was heartfelt but at the same time it was a great way to CYA because I recall that What's His Name was a real power in Nashville at the time.
I'll go with Dolly's recording of the song too but the dead lady did do herself proud with it and made Dolly a ton of cash. - 9/19/12, 5:41 PM

What I saw - a passer-by kid who ad hoc belted out something beautiful. I loved it. I love what "simple" people are capable of. Anything.

It's not a warble, it's a yodel. I don't know about banning it. I just wish it would go out of style.

Dolly sings her version in the movie Best Little Whorehouse in Texas...
I always tell the young athletes I coach - no matter what you do - do it with your whole heart. I think I'll show them this video as an example...
As for the warble, or yodel, or madly looking for a note to hit, whatever you want to call it - yeah, it can go out of style anytime now... - 9/20/12, 2:51 AM

I have also described it as the noise they make standing on top of a flagpole, flailing their arms around while trying to keep their balance.
