"Tough Mudders" There was a funny/insightful article on Cracked about this phenomenon. Great business plan...

In 1997, SCOTUS forced VMI, known for its adversative all male atmosphere and rigorous physical and academic demands, to admit girls. During the first few years of this, I saw some field training exercises and the end of a steeplechase run, and the SCOGS (VMI pejorative for Supreme Court Ordered Girls) were being helped to the finish by the guys, because the cadets were forced to compete as teams. Many of the girls did well academically, but most did not carry their weight in the physical training nor in the emotional and physically demanding rigors of the Rat Line, the adversative first months of cadetship, the period when the largest percentage of the cadets drop out. The program was softened, affirmative action blossomed, and a double standard was implemented for both physical training and discipline to insure that some girls made it through, and there was widespread resentment in the cadet corps. In fact, the 2000 graduating class had the letters LCWB placed on their class ring.

If having women in mano-a-mano combat was such a workable idea we would have female linemen in the NFL.

That's not a problem. That's an opportunity. If we're going to do this anyway, why not enjoy it?
