Nature's Flu Shot

ORIGINALLY POSTED 10:04 AM, Feb 23, 2012
UPDATED:  I wasn't much into it at the time, but I did make this potion.  A quandary was what did "1 Bulb of Garlic" mean?  I'd never seen that before.  Did it mean to say clove of garlic?  In the spirit of Emeril Lagasse, I threw in an entire bulb (after skinning the various cloves).

What does it taste like?  If the measure of an effective medicine is foulness of taste, then this may also be a cure for cancer. Oddly though, a few minutes after swilling a glass, I fancied another. I didn't have the flu, just a wicked cold, but right now I'm feeling like some Sunday sex.  Alas.

(Note to any of my chillens what may read this: Your mother is still virginal, and your father is but a mighty engine without the coal to drive it.)

Forgot the whiskey in the recipie. There's a REASON that all cold/flu medicines contain 15% alcohol....

So, did it help??

The cayenne will give you some relief from the clogged sinuses (I have made extra-strength chili for just that reason).

Lots if vitamin C... can't speak to the ginger & garlic.

How ya feeling??

(Captcha: 42 ribMaki - sounds like a Japanese rib recipe from Douglas Adams!)

TimO - alcohol just reduces your "give-a-f**k" level about how bad you feel.

Which is a good thing, even if it doesn't do anything else.

Elderflower tea actually works; it will unclog your sinuses and stop your nose from dripping, even with a cold or terrible allergies. The hardest thing is finding it, usually in the herb section of the local New Age health store. Simply boil water, put in 1 tablespoon per 8 oz, let it cool, drink a cup or so, and four hours of nose relief. During allergy season my wife keeps a mug near her work station and drinks a mouthful every hour. Zero side effects, and actually tastes good. Doesn't work on chest or throat problems. You can also buy tinctures, again probably at the hippie health store. Ask for advice, health store hippies are actually very nice people, just don't discuss politics or offer to take them hunting.

Hope you're doing better. Hang in there. At least there are some interesting remedies here. :)

My sure-fire remedy for what ails you : One part Nitetime Nyquil added to two parts Bushmills Irish nectar. Microwave on low setting for 30 seconds. Drink entire glass at once. Repeat as necessary. Known as the 'Bush-Quil Bomber' or the 'Dublin Drillrod', it is quite capable of curing in-grown toenails and/or any STDs in addition to alleviating flu symptoms. Your mileage may vary.
