Oh Lawdy, I signed the wrong paper!

State investigators: Fulton election documents were altered
Res Ipsa Loquitor

Res Ipsa Loquitor
I'm not holding my breath here.  A number of provisional ballot applications were made by Bridgett Jackson.  It was explained that she was a poll worker who thought she was supposed to sign the ballots.  Then there are whole sheets of names that supposedly did cast provisional ballots.  All of them were in red ink, in the same unidentified handwriting, and written at the same time.  Where we're at now?

"If somebody who handled the documents was found to have altered them to cover their tracks, the case could move into the criminal realm, including potential charges of voter fraud."

Do ya think? Forgive me for jumping to inclusions.  After all, this could be GOP voter fraud perped by African  American Republicans.  Which would be somewhat refreshing, since something like 99.3% of all massive voter fraud over the last 100 years have been perped by Democrats (National Bureau of Interweb Statistics).

Most aspects of local government here in Atlanta are corrupt.

Since its Super Bowl Sunday you might find a tie in with our corrupt government with this

IMO vote fraud should be a capital offense.

I'm thinking 99% of all voters have no idea who actually reviews and counts their ballots. When you consider the amount counted by computers, it's not a big stretch of logic to envision a voting system that is effectively used to promote a single party affiliation. A few votes here, a lot of votes there and it adds up to the swinging of an election.

We have met the enemy, and it's us. Until everyone that votes is forced to be there in person and has their finger dipped in dye, voting is only a symbolic gesture.

We know we can't trust any form of government, so why do we trust them with counting our votes?

Jess,
The problem from what I have looked at is much worse than you imagine. My county has dispensed with the paper record for the voting machines that it uses, so even if someone wanted to look for physical evidence of fraud (or a recount) it would be meaningless. Virginia, whose voting process is arguably better than most, has no standard procedure for verifying that machines in use are working properly, leaving the door open for the machine corruption to not be detected. From what I can tell they have never performed an end to end test of the pollbook software, voting, and tally machines, again leaving the door open to vote corruption. While certification of the machines exist, it only applies to the machines that scan votes, not the touch screen units in use in most districts, nor does it apply to the pollbook machines used for checking voters in or the network of machines used to tally the votes.

Couple all that with most machines in use being supplied by one manufacturer in Canada, who coincidentally updated their software before the election (again only certified against the scanner machines), and you begin to wonder if we are truly in a democracy at all…

Pissing and moaning about it here will do little good. I (we) are just a bunch of nutball kooks. I would advise this: if you really want your vote to count in any demonstrative, verifiable, way walk away from those touch screen machines and request a paper ballot. If everyone did this it would sure slow the voting process down, but there would be physical evidence that the voting occurred, and fraud would be much harder to hide. Of course, that is not really good enough. What really needs to happen is we need to push those county representatives that are pushable to clean up this mess. I suspect that too is useless, but if enough people requested paper ballots indicating they didn’t trust the machines, they would have to take notice. Ok – now you can call me a luddite..

On a different note, Congrats Rodger for your Ravens making the Superbowl! (I will freely admit not having read enough here to know if you claim them as yours – I am assuming you will be rooting for the Bal’mer homeboys) Over on this side of the river, Redskins Park is mostly dark with only the giant white plastic bag full of hot air that is their practice field marking their existence. I am thinking it’s full of Snyder farts…

I am surprised that the city of Sandy Springs is involved, since they have organized this new town to minimize government bureaucracies and costs.

Sadly, I suppose, crooks can still live there.

Georgia had a similar issue when Herman Talmadge won the governor's race in 1947. Yeah, He was also a democrat. The seem to have an issue with alphabetical list.
