I
loved the Sunday comics, but this is one of
many that pissed me off, even as a tyke. I mean,
what in hell is funny about this? Others that
annoyed the crap out of me were Dondi, Winnie Winkle, and Lulu.

For too many years I continued to subscribe to the Washington Post just so I could spend Sunday mornings with the comics. As the comics became more and more unfunny, it wasn't worth the effort. Lulu was a symptom, but remember 'Zippy to Pinhead'? That took it from unfunny to just ghastly.
I don't think I have even looked a real printed paper in years, yet out there by my mailbox is still a post with a couple of newspaper boxes, which have remained empty for the 10+ years I have lived here. - 11/3/13, 6:33 AM

There was even a movie about Dondi. I kept waiting for something to happen in the comic, but it never did.

Maybe that was a "Dogfish". There are all kinds of species.
Little Lulu, and Tubby, Iggy, Annie, Willie or Alvin? I still have my comic books from the 50's and I rate Little Lulu right up there with Donald and Daisy, Uncle Scrooge, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Mickey and Minnie, Elmer Fudd, Chip and Dale...are we talking about the same Little Lulu? - 11/3/13, 10:43 AM

The single most unfunny strip was Cathy.

Humor changes over time.
Heck, a hunnert years from now, folks may not laugh at your stuff, Rodge.
I also think a lot of comics are designed to be read under the influence. - 11/3/13, 11:55 AM

There are so damn many unfunny comic strips being printed today. Rose Is Rose, Sherman's Lagoon, Get Fuzzy, Prince Valiant, The Family Circle, and Marmaduke to name a few. I especially like Agnes, Pickles, and Zits.

Smokey Stover, Moon Mullins, The Katzenjammer Kids, Gasolene Alley, Mutt & Jeff, and Dick Tracey! I'm remembering Sunday afternoon with the funnies on the living room floor...

Once leftists discovered the leftist newpapers would let them preach their gospel in the Sunday comics it was the beginning of the end.

Panel 3. Who are you and what have you done with the real Rodger? - 11/3/13, 7:28 PM

I won't stop the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel while they still run "Prince Valiant" in the Sunday funnies. So, there.

No one has mentioned the suckiest of them all: Doonesbury, by Gary Trudeau.
That's the one in which GWB was protrayed as a feather floating in the air.
I do not remember reading one completely through as the bile and D fever was too strong. *everything* was political.
I do remember when Dondi was brand spankin' new in the Chi Tribune, with lots of foofaraw in the announcement..."coming in 8 days..." etc.
I thought he was a Korean orphan befriended by a couple dogfaces, and smuggled into the country. But I was 7-8? and not too aware of that stuff.

I think you may be confusing "Henry" who was a bald kid that never said anything, with "Dondi."
