Technology run amok

I could, in this space, deliver the 10,863 word screed about Verizon that is, as we speak, pounding my  brain for access.  But I've spent 3 hours on them already today, and I can't be bothered. Imagine.

I had Verizon phone and internet at the office up to Thursday of this week. Now on business Comcast with phones and internet and they threw in digital starter TV so I can watch Oprah in the afternoon. I went from 1.2-2.4 mbs download/.8mbs upload to 50mbs/10mbs with the same number of phones for $100 less a month plus Oprah. I would imagine without hitting our underground power lines with the torpedo and having to fix that they spent $6K getting the service to us and one other company. They are kicking Verizon's butt in that part of town.

Oh, I neglected to mention that for the past six months or more I've spent at least one hour a week with some dude in India trying to get back up and running. Resetting the modem was a daily thing. That's not to say that Verizon sucks everywhere. I discovered that my area is a red headed step child and got little support or bandwidth.

But, isn't Verizon the nation's fastest and most reliable network? How can this be? ;-)

Verizon works fine for me, but I'm just using it for my cel calls and texts. I'm in Las Vegas, and my wife says it's the best service to have in Caesars Palace where she works. Better reception.

We have FIOS here in Rhode Island and it has been reliable and very fast. OTOH we have TV, Phone and Internet and it costs $250 and I think that is excessive. Gonna drop the tv and phone and keep the internet - nobody around here can beat it.

I have had FIOS for about 5 years now. It even kept working after Sandy. My land line (also FIOS) came back to life before my cell service.

The only long outage I had was years ago. The tech were replacing all the cables on my block. One explained that some squirrels chewed up the cables.

Apparently this was not an uncommon issue:
