The semi literate coolaid aficionado that tried to make it about race was the only thing that flopped.

I'm in the middle of the first volume of a biog of FDR (by Burns). Parallels between BHO and FDR are remarkable, the assumption of executive power without regard for congress and/or Constitution, the constant assertions of necessary expedience superseding all considerations...

jd, another good one about FDR is The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes, about FDR's new deal. Small caps very much intended.

jd - Read The Forgotten Man by Amity Schlaes and you'll hate FDR even more.
Much of it is based on files and letters from those who worked for and with him, and it paints a picture of a vain, "I'm the smartest man in the room", indecisive man who was willing to "experiment" - his word - with the lives and fortunes of the American people, a man who was perfectly willing to harass and punish private citizens and businesses who disagreed with him.
In the end, it was WW2, not anything in FDR's economic policies, that brought the USA out of the Depression years after the rest of the world had recovered. His hagiographers hid that quite well, coasting on his WW2 leadership.
Uhbama was was partially right when he compared himself to FDR a few years ago.
