There was, I think a castle-like building on Jeju island. Before 1945. That's the crater.

The trail up to the crater is built like a castle, and the island is incredibly beautiful. BTW, Rodger, the Korean citizens on Jeju have always been known for their rebellion against authority....especially including their Japanese occupiers up until 1945.
