ASHBY

  • High-school Nerd  (Nat Wolff) enters into a friendship with his neighbor, Ashby (Mickey Rourke), a retired CIA assassin who only has a few months to live. The film is a coming of age, approaching death comedy drama.
Two Things
  1. I'm trying to think of a Mickey Rourke movie I've seen where he didn't play some psycho.  Maybe Diner. Well, this is one, but it is touch and go.
  2. Who in god's name would cast Sarah Silverman as Ed Wallis's mother?  Albeit a nymphomaniac.  And make it work? Director  Tony McNamara got away with it.
MoSup picked this movie last night, and I loved it (so did she, but less so perhaps). You just have to go with it, like the cheesy football game scenes.  And accept that a 17 year old girl has a MRI machine in her basement (her dad being a neurologist) and uses it like a toy. Did I say very cute 17 year old girl?

Quirky.

I'm pretty certain you'll watch it to the end, and not feel cheated. We watched on Netflix.
