I'm old enough to just barely remember when "Under God" was added to the Pledge (I was 6 yrs. old in 1954). I also remember my parents telling me that the Pledge was originally given with the hand on the heart, and then, on the words "to the Flag", the hand was raised toward the flag in a gesture that now, not then, evokes the "Sieg Heil".
Actually, my parents' version had already been revised; originally the Pledge was begun with a military-type salute, and then, on "to the Flag", the "Roman salute" (which was the inspiration for the "Sieg Heil") was made and held. - 5/12/16, 10:21 AM

Well... to half the woman's credit, god isn't going to help us down here. Unfortunately she believe a politician will help her.

The nazis invented nothing...the swastika was the first bolshevik big logo...Stalin was forced to impose the sickle and hammer after seeing Hitler had the swastika thingy all over the place and quoting Adolf's own homo lover Brown Shirt Bolsho Ernst Roehm:
"Adolf is a swine. He will give us all away. He only associates with reactionaries now. His old friends aren't good enough for him. Getting matey with the East Prussian generals. They're his cronies now. Adolf is turning into a gentleman. He's got himself a tail-coat now. Adolf knows exactly what I want. I've told him often enough. Not a second edition of the old imperial army. Are we revolutionaries or aren't we? Allons, enfants de la patrie! If we are, then something new must arise out of our élan, like the mass armies of the French Revolution. If we're not, then we'll go to the dogs. We've got to produce something new, don't you see? A new discipline. A new principle of organization. The generals are a lot of old fogeys. They never had a new idea."
Of course, Adolf had him offed shortly later, just as Ernst was mounting a young boy...
And yes, the stiff arm was invented in America for the pledge and was abandoned for the same reason as Stalin's swastika. - 5/12/16, 3:42 PM

The pledge of allegiance was written by a member of the American Socialist party, Francis Bellamy, no wonder conservatives get so upset when good Americans refuse to say it.

Gods should be omitted from everything, not merely the US pledge of allegiance.

Speak for yourself. I think even atheists benefit when society at large acknowledges God (and I ain't talkin' about "Allah").
And, while I, too, am over-the-hill and less-than-svelte, let no one think you and I are the same person. - 5/13/16, 7:03 AM

Does anyone else find it odd that atheists don't go after eradicating Santa Claus, leprechauns, unicorns, or even zombies from all walks of life?
