A Victoria Cross, roughly equivalent to the US Medal of Honor, was presented in person by the King George V. Only 628 were awarded in all of WWI.
When asked by the Road Show expert where the medal was now, the soldier's daughter said "It's in the family." I can only hope it's now in possession of someone who realizes what it means and isn't tempted to sell it for drugs or a car or some other nonsense, or even toss it.

Halliwell was and still is a hometown hero: http://www.middletonia.co.uk/peopleandplaces/joelhalliwell.html

Here's a VC that went for £276,000 recently.
