Printer Ink

INK

The Ink Jet story I posted a few days ago generated more commentary than I expected, mostly hate-jet speech.  I fall in the average user category, meaning I don't use my printer to generate a lot of business documents, etc,. and ink cartridges will last me a year.  My current HP printer cost me about $60 three years ago, and it works. When I do need ink however, here's where I buy refilled cartridges for half the price store fronts charge.  I'm sure there are others, but I can vouch for these guys as reputable. Buying new cartridges is like burning money that you could  otherwise put in my PayPal for saving it for you.

I once bought some off-brand ink carts for my Epson (replaced just this week with a spanking -watch it! - new Canon multi-function). I figure there must some good off brands but the ink I got smelled terrible. I'd print a page and hold my nose. Awful.
Thanks for the link - that site has OEM Canon carts at a real discount.

I've had an EpsonR200 for 2 years now. I print a LOT of inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs.

Biggest thing I've learned is to only change ONE cartridge at a time. I also let them go completely empty before changing them.

I bought a Dell 3-in-1 printer (fax, copier, scanner) for $99 from some "close-out company" on eBay (They originally sold for $329). Great little machine and prints photos pretty well. Then I found out you can only get the cartridges through Dell at $65 a pop!
I know many do not like being the refill ink, but I can refill my 3 times for about $20. Then I usually get an error and have to get a new cartridge. I buy the "refurbished" ones for about $20.
My cartridges USED to lat me for quite a while until the kids started printing photos in high quality....

HP imbeds code in their printer software that effectivly shuts down the cartridges when they are only 3/4 empty. Somewhere on line I saw the code that you can insert into the print driver that turns that lovely feature off. Once I find it again, I'll post it on my blog for everyone.

My hp 5510 is apparently able to recognize refilled cartridges and returns error messages when I try to use them. I have only about 20% success rate with refills, and at that the thing is constantly asking to do an "alignment" which prints a whole page in high definition.
Anybody know of a hack to defeat this?
