Remove the wart, don't hide it.

Political Suicide?

sarabeth and I are in accord; the GOP's clumsy purity test is nincompoopery of the first rank.  But for different reasons.
It doesn’t seem to occur to them that lurching to the right will only cause disgruntled party members to peel away from the center. And drive a larger proportion of Independents to vote Democratic instead of Republican.
Piffle.

No, I see a knee jerk response by party leaders who don't understand what's happening.  This litmus test is cosmetic legerdemain.  If the warts weren't there, no makeup would be necessary, right?   And make no mistake, the party flourishes when conservatism prevails.

An Arlen Specter will affirm his belief on every point of any litmus test (of any party).  A Republican Party adhering to principles they claim to espouse would look at the record, retch, and support a Pat Toomey reflexively. They did not.  John McCain would never have been the Party's 2008 candidate, if its leaders weren't McCains themselves. Why hasn't this GOP made it clear that Mark Rubio, not Charlie Crist, is the man in Florida?

Party chairman, Michael Steele is not  conservative, and views Sarah Palin as threat to be dealt with, not listened too.  The answer then is to move them out, and turn the reins over to conservatives who don't need a primer on conservative values.  They know, love, and live them.

Amen, but it wont happen. While a lot of Conservatives would rather stay home than vote for these people, some liberals in their districts are too scary not to vote against, whoever the RINO. As long as that's happening, we wont be tossing the bums out at the pace necessary.

That's what I'd do, ashamed to say.

I like this method of checking for Rinos.

There's also this post on the NY23 race.

Beck said something yesterday to a caller scared by the idea that a new party would "split the vote and leave the Dem in charge forever". He compared the real possibility of a Conservative party to a credible threat to force the Republicans into line. It made a lot of sense- he said it better than I just did. But the problem is they cannot be trusted to change, only to lie after being reelected and go right back to being BFFs with the Dems.

I assert that threat of the Dems being in charge forever doesn't work anymore.

"America needs conservatives more than it needs Republicans." I love it, AWM. Looks like we're all in agreement - sick and tired of voting for lessers of evil. That only gets you evil.

I have a few other issues with that article. For starters, I wish those libtards at the Times would stop referring the the GOP leadership as "conservatives". The Times nor the GOP would know a real conservative if one kicked them in the ass (Careful! You could give them a black eye doing that.) We need to stop letting the left define what conservatism is. They have been telling the same tired old lies about us for so long that they have forgotten that they are lies.

Then there was this, "Its introduction increases pressure on the party chairman, Michael Steele, as he tries to maintain a balance between those in his party who have been saying the road to a Republican comeback is to include divergent views and appeal to the political center, and those who say the party needs to more fully embrace conservative principles." How could you include divergent views and appeal to the political center? Why, you'd do it by fully embracing conservative principles. I see no conflict here. I don't think any real conservative would. We just need to get rid of the RINOs who are creating this conflict out of nothing.

There comes a time in most organizations when good leadership (which the Republicans seem to lack,) need to step out of the way and allow the membership to decide where they want to go next. It seems to me that the people are beginning to march into the light of true conservative values and the leadership can either hurry to get back in front of this parade and join with the people, or they will be trampled into the dust like the Liberal ideas that have caused this great awakening.

You only have to agree with 8 of the 10 points? Let me see if I’ve got this straight – a pro-abortion, pro-gun control candidate would have the support of the RNC? Or a candidate who supports government-run healthcare, and cap and trade – they’re okay with that, too? How about one who supports both amnesty for illegal aliens and card check? That's okay? That’s what the RNC is saying.

Who comes up with this crap?

You wanna know how to get rid of RINO’s? It’s simple. If a candidate wins his party’s nomination, but loses in the general election, his career is pretty much over – at least at that level. So if a RINO happens to slip through and win the primary, just don’t vote in that race in the general election. Vote in the other races, just not that one. No candidate can win if 25% to 35% of his base doesn’t vote, even if a majority of independents support him. Yes, the Femocrat will win, and that can be addressed in the next election. But you’ll never have to worry about the RINO again. And it won't be long before the RNC takes notice.

Think how much better off we’d all be if Arizona conservatives had had the stones to do that the first time McCain ran for office once he proved to be a RINO). Instead, they continued to vote for him – first as a rep, then as a senator – simply because they didn’t want a Femocrat to win. What did it get us? It got us Barack Obama.

We here in Illinois are faced with the same situation: Mark Kirk, a Chicago RINO, is running for Obama’s senate seat and at this point seems to have the backing of the state Republican party. Well, if he does manage to win the party nomination, I’m not voting in that race, and I don’t care if the Femocrat does win. It’s time to take a stand; it’s time for a line in the sand.

RNC – are you listening?

A leader like this, Murphy?

Since we do seem to be stuck with the 2 party system, it is time to clearly delineate which one stands for what.
